This table describes the coaches that have had the best and the worst talent (measured in draft picks) in their rosters.

For every game played, every player on the roster is evaluated in the same way as in the Teams Roster Draft Talent page: each draft pick is assigned a value of 300/(Pick# + 2) and then adjusted if necessary:

  • For a player in first three years by the year of the career divided by 4
  • For a player in the years beyond the 16th, by (20-YearOfCareer)/4 but never less than 0.25
Undrafted players are assigned pick #300. The resulting sum is accumulated and then divided by the number of games the coach worked.

The data is combined from the boxscore game reports and from players BIO pages on the German version of the NHL website and is available from year 1987 onward. Both the 'Best talent' and 'Worst talent' rankings are available.

Only coaches that worked 80 games or more as HC are included.
